이 재 현 JaeHyun LEESouth Korea, b. 1979 이재현 작가는 유년시절의 기억과 과거의 추억을 소환하는 반복적인 과정을 자신만의 시각언어로 표현하는 작가이다. 작가의 캔버스 속에는 냉소적으로 보이는 표정의 인물과 작가에게 의미 있는 대상들이 다양한 색채와 함께 임파스토 기법으로 표현된다. 작가는 건축을 공부하였으며 2007년부터 조각 작업을 시작하였다. 공존, 공생의 의미가 내포된 사람과 동물의 형상을 우드, 세라믹, 메탈 등 다양한 소재로 입체작업을 시도했다. 작가는 2018년부터 재료의 범위를 확장하여 페인팅으로 작업을 발전시킨 후 자신만의 조형언어를 캔버스에 담아왔다. 이재현 작가의 작업에서 보이는 특징은 평면 회화이지만 입체적인 마티에르(matière)가 두드러지며, 묘사된 대상의 다변성(多辯性)을 추구한다. 이는 10여 년간 수행해온 작가의 조각 작업이 바탕이 된 결과물이라고 할 수 있다. 캔버스에 부조를 적용하기 위해 다양한 재료의 특성에 대한 고민과 반복적인 실험을 통해 지금의 독창적인 화풍과 함께 작가만의 조형 언어를 구축할 수 있었다. Lee is an artist known for his distinctive style of expressing the memories of his childhood and past in his own visual language. A series of fascinating paintings depicting cynical-looking figures and meaningful objects with a striking multi-color impasto technique will leave a lasting impression on the audience. After studying architecture in college, Lee shifted to sculpting and stepped into the world of art in 2007. He created a series of stunning human and animal sculptures made of different materials such as wood, ceramic, and metals under the overarching themes of coexistence and symbiosis. Since 2018, the artist has expanded the variety of materials used in his artwork and broadened his horizon into paintings by expressing his own formative language on canvas. The artist has a knack for applying a 3D texture to his paintings, and bringing out the versatility of objects, making the best use of matière. With over 10 years of sculpting experience, Lee developed his signature style and technique of painting after exploring different properties of a wide range materials in an endless attempt to incorporate relief sculpture into painting.
