사와이 쇼헤이 Shohei SAWAI b.1988 Japan. 사와이 작가는 일본의 명문 무사시노 미술대학교에서 일본화 전공으로 학사와 석사 학위를 취득했다. 그는 자신이 실제로 본 풍경을 바탕으로 그림을 그린다. 색채의 배합과 대비의 강도, 강한 브러쉬 스트로크는 시간의 흐름과 움직임을 느끼게 하며 사진보다도 사람의 눈에 담긴 기억에 가까운 풍경을 보여준다. 캠퍼스에 담긴 형태 하나하나가 모호해 보이지만 화면 전체에선 사람과 풍경의 존재감이 확실하게 드러나며 보는 이로 하여금 마치 그 장소에 서 있는 듯한 느낌을 준다. 한점씩 정성들여 완성한 소품들을 진열하여 다시금 전시장 벽면을 가득 채우는 ‘벽을 키우다’라는 거대한 작품을 만들어 낸다. 일본의 피카소라고 불리는 저명한 ‘오카모토 다로 현대예술상’ 특별상 수상 등 다수의 수상경력이 있으며 국내외에서 조금씩 활동 범위를 넓혀 가고 있다. Born in 1988 in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from Musashino Art University, Dept of Japanese Painting in 2012. Completed the Japanese painting course at the same university graduate school in 2014. He has won various awards such as the 23rd Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Award, and has experience of exhibiting overseas as well. His images are based on the scenery that he actually saw in real life. The mixture of the colors and the freshness of the paint make us feel the passage of time, allowing us to see the scene projected by something closer to the human eye memories rather than a photograph. Even though each form of the objects in the canvas seems ambiguous, the whole screen is full of strong existence of people and towns.
