Rooo Lou ルー 루 Japan b.1988 루(Rooo Lou) 는 1988년 일본 오사카에서 태어났으며, 도쿄에서 거주하며 활동하고있다. Rooo Lou는 Instagram에서 커미션을 받으며 경력을 쌓기 시작했다. 그는 캐리커처에 대한 수요가 있음을 깨닫고 요청에 따라 사람들을 그리기 시작했다. 이후 그는 사진으로부터 영감을 받아 자신이 처한 현실을 묘사 하기 위해 인물 피사체에 몰두했으며, 최소한의 디테일로 초상화를 그려낸다. 그의 인물에는 특징이 없으며 눈에 점만 있어 놀랍도록 신랄한 시선을 만들어낸다. 디지털 세대로 그래픽에 뿌리를 두고있는 루는 항상 디지털 드로잉으로 스캐치하는데 그 과정은 두꺼운 검은 윤곽선을 만든 후, 색으로 도형을 채우고 배경이 구분되어지며 그 다음 팔레트가 결정되어 캔버스에 옮겨진다. 그는 질감을 위해 아크릴을 사용하고 만화적 성격을 부각시키기 위해 간결한 붓질을 유지하면서 팝아트를 연상하게 만든다 이렇게 만들어진 그의 시각적 언어는 보는 사람으로 하여금 공허함과 욕망의 경계를 오가게 한다. Rooo’s simplified portraits erase the traditional conduits for emotion from the faces of the characters he paints. But somehow the two dots left for eyes draw the viewer in, almost as if the viewer imprints their own emotions onto the featureless characters’ faces. The thick black outline, muted color palette, and empty backgrounds emphasize the figures’ lack of character. There’s nothing in the composition to hint at the type of person ROOO paints or the relationships between the figures. Through this simplified aesthetic, ROOO is able to tell the many experiences of everyone that looks at the painting without specifying any one story.
